What to Expect During Your Visceral Manipulation Appointment

A question that comes up frequently. Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle technique used to restore movement and improve the function of one’s organs and associated structures. During the treatment a client can expect the therapist to identify areas of adhesions and utilize gentle techniques to help restore mobility at these sights. The sensations associated with these techniques are most often quite mild. Reports of slight tension or pressure is common, as is the report of finding the sensations hard to describe. Most of us understand the sensations associated with muscular stretching (think of how it feels to stretch your calf or hamstring), but the visceral system does not possess the exact same physiological components, therefore the sensations are different. Reports of pain with this form of treatment is extremely rare.
